A Day in the Life of an AI-Assisted Family History Project

What does 24 hours of building look like when you've got an AI familiar helping you dig through a century of family history? Today was a good example.

🌳 The Tree Gets Smarter

The Harriman genealogy project now has 827+ people spanning over 1,500 years — from Viking-era Scandinavia all the way to living cousins. Today we confirmed all five Harriman brothers in the database (Raymond, Winslow "Jake," Archie, Howard "Bub," and Walter Sr.) and cleaned up a significant amount of conflicting data that had crept in over months of automated research.

The most satisfying cleanup: Douglas Harriman's connections had accumulated over 200 garbage entries from a social search agent run amok. We traced the problem, cleared them out, and rebuilt the correct 9 relationships by hand — two biological children with Olajumoke, and seven step-children from his first marriage in Africa.

💬 The Family Chatbot Goes Live

The biggest thing we shipped today: a family chatbot embedded directly into genealogy.86hate.com.

Click the floating 💬 button in the bottom-right corner of the family tree site and a chat drawer slides up. The AI knows who you are (via SSO login), loads your personal context from the database — your parents, siblings, children, spouses — and answers questions about your family history. It also does live web searches to supplement what's in the database.

Ask it "When did my grandfather pass away?" and it knows you mean Walter Lawrence Harriman Sr. (1925–2015). The chatbot also mirrors every conversation to a private Matrix room for review.

🔬 Research Board: 37 Open Tasks

We now have a formal research board at genealogy.86hate.com/research tracking 37 open genealogy tasks — DNA chain verifications, missing birth records, uncertain family connections, and contact leads.

🤖 Background Agents, Always Digging

• paternal-spine-verify: confirmed the direct paternal spine from Adam back to Walter Sr.

📬 Outreach System

We built a full outreach tracking system — every time we send a chatbot link to a family member, it's logged in MongoDB with timestamps and status. The goal: reach 15–20 living relatives over the next few months.

Fixed SearXNG monitor, pushed a full projects index to the private git server, added a 3am daily birthday research cron, and committed everything to version control.
